Highland Council has offered motorists free parking spaces at Inverness Town House throughout the festive period.

They were available for a maximum stay of 30 minutes, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, until Tuesday, January 2.

However the move has been described as a "token gesture" by one city centre businesswoman.

According to the latest Inverness Courier poll results the majority of readers think the move is both a token gesture and a good idea.

A total of 67 per cent of those who voted felt the move was a token gesture with 33 per cent thinking the opposite.

And a massive 82 per cent of those who voted felt it was a good idea compared with 18 per cent who did not.
