Highland Council confirmed today that all schools in the region would close on Thursday due to strike action by teaching staff.

That means more than 30,000 pupils will not be able to attend classes that day because the local authority is concerned with safety.

That includes all special schools, council-run nurseries and school buses and crossing patrols.

However, the strike only affects the members of the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) and the Association of Head Teacher and Deputes in Scotland (AHDS) unions.

What do you think? Is this a sensible safety measure or is it an over-reaction and some schools could have opened if there was enough staff.
