Inverness city centre policing team officers have been carrying out patrols following complaints of drivers ignoring the restricted 'access only' signs to Douglas Row.

The current traffic lights and works on Chapel Street are resulting some motorists redirecting their route down Glebe Street and entering Douglas Row, an access only road to avoid the traffic build up and continue their journey onto Bank Street.

Sergeant Julie Connor from the city centre policing team, said: “Douglas Row is an access only road with the appropriate signs and traffic order.

"A concerned resident contacted police stating that young and elderly residents are being put at risk by the increased traffic and reported excessive speed".

Road Safety is a priority for Police Scotland and city centre policing team officers will be increasing patrols in the area to engage, explain, educate and finally enforce the restricted access to Douglas Row.

Yesterday, Wednesday March 17, officers detected 45 motorists using Douglas Row as a short cut.

These drivers were warned and educated in respect of their use of the road.

Motorists are further advised that other restricted access streets in the city centre are Fraser Street into Queensgate and Farraline Park into Academy Street, which should only be used for access to these streets.

Sgt Connor continued: "As we ease out of lockdown, traffic in the city centre will increase and these access only streets contribute to the effective traffic management in the city centre."
