Chief Inspector Colin Gough, area commander for Inverness, retires today after what was a described as an exemplary police career.

Chief Superintendent George Macdonald said: "Colin has been a loyal servant to the communities of the Highland and Islands in many different roles.

"In particular, his commitment to building lasting and positive relationships with our partners has been held in extremely high regard, and I know that he will be a missed face among friends, colleagues and the public.

"I’m sure I speak on behalf of everyone within the division when I wish him all the very best for his next chapter in life."
