POLICE have stepped up patrols after a man allegedly approached an 11-year-old girl on Nairn’s West Beach.

The incident occurred around 2pm on New Year’s Day in the area of the Sandancer Arcade. The girl was not injured.

Detective Sergeant Peter MacDonald said officers were reviewing CCTV, adding: “After the incident the girl alerted dog walkers on the beach who saw a male disappearing from sight into the sand dunes.

“The male is described as between 50 and 60 years of age, stocky build with broad shoulders, wearing a dark beanie hat and a blue and black water proof jacket with green stripe.

“The incident was not reported to police at the time and we are now appealing for anyone who was in the area on New Year’s Day to contact us if they think they have information which may help in identifying this male.

“In particular, we believe a family from Inverness spoke with the girl after the incident and we would urge them to come forward.”

Anyone with information is should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
