POLICE are investigating after a group of around 15 football fans sang sectarian songs on an Inverness train following a weekend match in the city.

British Transport Police (BTP) have appealed for information following the incident that took place throughout the journey to Edinburgh Haymarket in a train packed with other football supporters and families with young children.

The incident happened on the 6.45pm service from Inverness on Saturday, following a 3-3 Scottish Premiership clash between Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Hearts in the Highland capital that afternoon.

Investigating officer PC Chris Sutherland said: "This behaviour was by a small pocket of supporters on a busy train, packed with other fans and young families.

"We have a no tolerance attitude towards such behaviour, which has no place whatsoever in the game.

"I am appealing for anyone who saw this taking place to come forward and let us know so we can stop this behaviour from happening again."

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 405040 or text 61016, quoting 222 of 30/10.
