Police investigate Loch Ness-side robbery

A MAJOR investigation was launched after a man armed with a gun robbed a home in the Loch Ness-side village of Drumnadrochit.

The shock incident happened at around 10pm last night.

Armed police from Inverness sped to the Coilte Crescent area of Drumnadrochit after officers received a report of a robbery from the residential address.

Police said a man described as being 5ft 5in in height, of average build with dark skin and wearing dark clothing, entered the house with what appeared to be a firearm and demanded money from the homeowner.

A four-figure sum of money was stolen from the address. No firearms were discharged and no-one has been reported injured as a result of the incident.

Police said this afternoon that a man has been arrested in the Cumbria area, and is currently assisting officers who are investigating the robbery.

A high visibility police presence remains in the Drumnadrochit area to provide reassurance to the local community.

Police are keen to hear from members of the public who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area prior to the incident.

Officers would also like to hear from anyone who may have seen a silver VW Passat in the area earlier that day.

If anyone has any information about the incident they are encouraged to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org/
