FINAL approval has been given to a new Police Scotland National Database Enquiry Unit (NDEU), which will help retain dozens of jobs in Inverness.

Assistant Chief Constable John Hawkins gave the nod to the implementation of the unit today.

Operating across two sites in Inverness and Glasgow, the NDEU will provide a national facility to check police systems.

It will be implemented on a phased basis, with officers in the northern division being the first to connect to the new service today.

The creation of the NDEU is the final move towards a Scotland-wide integrated call handling and incident management system for police.

John Hawkins, ACC Local Policing North, said: “The creation of a new National NDEU means that 30 permanent staff posts will be retained in Inverness.

“Every member of staff affected by the recent control room and service centre closure in Inverness was offered a position within the newly-created NDEU."
