Police were called to a multi-storey car park after reports that a Nairn man had a shotgun.

But when officers arrived at the Rose Street facility in Inverness on the evening of January 8 this year, they saw 21 year old Ellis Williams confronting a motorist outside his car while apparently holding a knife.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that it was later discovered that it was a screwdriver.

Williams, described as a prisoner in Barlinnie, admitted possession of an offensive weapon and had sentence deferred until June 4 for a background report.

Sheriff Sara Matheson heard that Williams approached a motorist as he was about to get into his car and demanded the keys.

The motorist refused and tried to persuade Williams to go home, but the 21 year old persisted with his demands.

Fiscal depute Susan Love said that at one point the motorist kicked out at Williams despite him still holding what he thought was a knife.

When police arrived to arrest Williams, Ms Love said no shotgun was found and the "knife" turned out to be a screwdriver.
