POLICE have appealed for help tracing a missing Dutch tourist after he vanished while walking the Affric Kintail Way long distance trail.

Cornelius Hendrick Van Der Wetering (54) was last seen in the Tomich area on Wednesday, December 28 having previously stayed in guest house accommodation in Inverness.

Police understand he planned to walk from Tomich towards the Kyle of Lochalsh via Glen Affric.

He is tall and slim with short grey hair, and was wearing outdoor clothing and carrying a large rucksack.

"As part of ongoing enquiries to confirm Mr Van Der Wetering’s wellbeing, officers are appealing to anyone who may have seen a man of his description walking in the Tomich/Glen Affric or Lochalsh areas since December 28 to make contact via 101," said a police spokeswoman.

"Officers are also making contact with local guest house/hotel owners/bus and taxi companies and would appeal to anyone in the hospitality or transport industry who may have seen Mr Van Der Wetering to phone."
