Tribute will be paid to people who have died at work or from work-related injury and diseases during a ceremony in Inverness later this month.

Wreaths will be placed at the workers' memorial at Friars Shott in Huntly Street to mark the annual International Workers' Memorial Day on Friday April 28.

People who have died due to coronavirus will also be remembered.

The event, which starts at 12.30pm, is being organised by Inverness and District Trades Union Council and all are welcome.

It stated: "Every year more people are killed at work than in wars.

"Most don't die of mystery ailments, or in tragic 'accidents'.

"They die because an employer decided their safety just wasn't that important a priority.

"International Workers Memorial Day commemorates those workers."

The trades union council also points out it is three years since the start of the coronavirus pandemic and if anyone, or their union branch would like to remember colleagues, friends or members who lost their life due to Covid-19 or any other reason at work, they are welcome to go along.

The theme of International Workers' Memorial Day is Remember the dead, Fight for the Living.

Trade unionists will also gather in Falcon Square, Inverness, on Saturday April 29 for a May Day Rally

The event starts at 12.30pm and will include speakers.
