COUNCILLORS have nodded through plans for 300 new homes in Balloch, allowing them to proceed a step closer to receiving planning permission.

On Wednesday, Highland Council’s south planning applications committee received a planning advice notice for the housing development.

Having the chance to comment, no councillor did so.

The houses are planned for a currently agricultural site off Barn Church, along the A96. They have been designed by Inverness-based Threesixty Architecture.

Planners detailed how a number of sites designated for natural heritage interests lie close to the site, while Culloden Battlefield is about a mile to the south.

However, they concluded that none of these would be likely to be affected by the development.

This is despite the site also being identified as “an area of archaeological potential”.

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency suggested there was some risk of surface water flooding at the site.
