Home Bargains could be the anchor store in a new development in Inverness.

Plans have been submitted for four smaller shops to be built alongside the retailer as part of the Stratton development on the east side of the city.

Home Bargains already has a city centre branch.

A planning permission in principle for commercial development application has been lodged with Highland Council for land near Cranmore Drive in Smithton.

The Home Bargains store would be almost 35,000 sq ft, with 10,000 sq ft of outdoor sales area. The 'retail parade' of smaller units would be about 5000 sq ft.

An in-person public consultation is set to be held at Barn Church in Culloden from 3pm-7pm on June 21 by applicant TJ Morris, with a second planned for a future date at a location not yet decided.

Jack Miller, assistant planner for agent Iceni Projects, said: "Members of the design team will be available at these events to answer any queries."

In 2019, the overall masterplanned development at Stratton was report to comprise 2500 homes, retail, office, health centre, church, community facilities, restaurant/café, primary school, park and ride, hotel and commercial/business uses split over four phases.
