Plans to revitalise the Nairn Links with a new social gathering area have taken a step forward as the application for a new phase of the development has been approved.

Team Hamish, the campaign set up in memory of local youngster Hamish Hey, confirmed on its Facebook page over the weekend that approval has been granted for the the creation of new footpaths and bespoke seating in the area near Marine Road.

A number of residents had objected to the application, raising concerns about parking, the potential for live performances to cause a noise nuisance and for the seating area to become a meeting point for anti-social behaviour.

The plans, however, had been recommended for approval and follow on from the creation of the popular splash pad also at the Links.

A statement from Team Hamish stated: “I am absolutely delighted to announce that 10 months after submission, planning approval has been granted for our Phase 2 proposals.

“We are so excited to be moving onto this next stage, and will provide regular updates as our plans develop and we get closer to them becoming a reality.

“Thank you so much for all of your continued support.”
