ONE of the word’s most prestigious solo piping competitions has been staged in Inverness.

The two-day Northern Meeting Piping Competition took place in Eden Court Theatre, with talented musicians competing for a range of prizes.

Stuart Liddell was named overall winner, lifting the Northern Meeting Quaich at the end of two days of competition held on Thursday and Friday.

He scooped the accolade after being placed first in the march, strathspey and reel and hornpipe and jig competitions, and fourth in the Clasp.
