A Nairn music group has received a £500 boost from funds raised at ceilidhs in Nairn over the summer.

Pipe Major Kevin Reid of Nairn and District Pipe Band received a cheque from Nairn Ceilidh Group chairman Donald Wilson at the handover of proceeds from this year’s summer ceilidhs.

In total, £4000 was disbursed to more than a dozen local organisations to help with their work in the community ranging from sporting clubs to the arts and mental wellbeing groups.

“The donations are merely a token of appreciation for the work these groups do and the benefits they bring to the community of Nairn,” Donald said.

The Ceilidh Group has been organising traditional summer ceilidhs for nearly 40 years and raised £76,000 for local causes.

“The money we’re able to distribute is just an added bonus,” Donald said.

“They continue to grow in popularity so much so this year we realised we had to use all the space available in the Nairn Community and Arts Centre’s main hall which can be adapted depending on attendances.

“We owe a great debt to all our musicians, dancers, audiences, the centre staff and our small hard-working committee without whom these evenings would not happen.”
