Youngsters at an Inverness Primary School welcomed three authors as they celebrated the joy of stories and storytelling to mark World Book Day.

The event, which is marked in more than 100 countries, aims to promote reading for pleasure and offer every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own.

Pupils at Cradlehall Primary School celebrated World Book Day by dressing up as a character from a book.

Authors Corrina Campbell, David Macphail and Tom Morgan-Jones also visited the school thanks to funding from the Scottish Book Trust.

Inverness children’s author Barbara Henderson, who is also a drama teacher at the school, was involved in organising the event.

Head teacher Viv Goodall said: "This World Book Day has been the most memorable one yet here at Cradlehall.

"The feedback from the children has been amazing. I’m not quite sure how we follow this next year, as the bar has been set extremely high.

"We are grateful to the Scottish Book Trust for part-funding the visits."
