The world-conquering sporting exploits of a Highland man have been honoured by Inverness after a celebratory civic reception was held in his name.

Ewan MacDonald was inducted into the World Curling Hall of Fame earlier this year. The 47-year-old is a three-time world champion, having landed the coveted title in 1999, 2006 and again in 2009.

He has also represented Scotland and Great Britain on more than 200 occasions, and was part of Team GB at three Winter Olympics – finishing fourth in Turin in 2006.

His list of major achievements also include representing Scotland in no fewer than 10 world championships – medalling in five of them, with one silver and one bronze to accompany his trio of world title golds.

The curler also played in six European Championships, securing two golds, one silver and one bronze.

And, following his induction into the hall of fame earlier this year, it was announced that Inverness Town House would play host to a civic reception for him in recognition of this and his many other honours.

The event took place on Thursday after the curling star's former coach and close friend Tom Pendreigh floated the idea and won the backing of Highland Council.
