CALEY Thistle’s first team scrambled a controversial victory over a tactically astute ICT under-12s select at the club’s annual open day.

The Championship promotion hopefuls might have thought they had it tough the day before against Partick Thistle, losing 3-1, but only some questionable refereeing – from their own manager John Robertson – spared back-to-back defeats.

Edging the annual clash 13-12, the 16 seniors were often outplayed by the 100 small but spirited young foes.

ICT commercial manager Jim Oliver said: “I would call into doubt a number of Mr Robertson’s decisions in his own team’s favour. If VAR was in operation we may have seen a very different outcome.”

Close to 600 kids took part with, adults included, well over 1000 in attendance.

The youngsters won the right to play by being first to purchase the club’s new strip. They were able to mingle with their heroes, take selfies and collect autographs.

Mr Oliver added: “It was a great day.”
