Pupils at Inverness Royal Academy got stuck in to help a great cause just before this week’s autumn half-term holidays kicked in.

The city school is a long-time supporter of the STV Children’s Appeal, taking part annually in a big breakfast and fancy dress event to raise funds for the charity cause which supports children in need across the country.

A total of 220,000 children across Scotland are said to be currently living in poverty _ equivalent to one in four of Scotland’s youth popluation – many of them missing out on simple things in life, such as breakfast.

Pupils at the academy were asked to make a donation last Friday in return for wearing something tartan or a hat – the sillier the better.

They also had the chance to enjoy some free food during the school interval, from porridge to muffins made by pupils in the home economics department as well as free fruit.

It was all available to enjoy by the school garden, opposite the school’s Hungryness hut, with pupils grabbing the chance to enjoy a snack and catch up with their friends too.
