A PHOTOMARATHON of one of the most idyllic places on the planet is going to be held for the first time.

The event, organised by Visit Inverness Loch Ness, will see budding photographers out and about around the lochside taking snaps of the area.

Competitors will arrive at the Highland Archive Centre on February 29 to register before heading out to take photos using their mobile phone or camera.

Photographers, in both adult and junior (under 16) sections, are being asked to take a photo within one of six themed categories – postcard, just for me, 21st century Highlands, a wellbeing escape, go fast or go slow, or exploring high or low – to showcase the area.

Once photos have been taken, participants will return to the activity centre to submit their images.

The winners will be selected by the members of Visit Inverness Loch Ness in March. They will win a prize, which is yet to be determined.

Visit Inverness Loch Ness hopes this new event will encourage visitors and locals to the area during the quieter season.

Michael Golding, Visit Inverness Loch Ness chief executive, said: “We are delighted to host this event which will support our businesses and provide a family friendly activity day suitable for all ages.

“We hope to bring visitors to the area and encourage local people to be a tourist for the day, and see what you find. The hope is to help highlight that we live in a destination that can give you a day to remember at any time of the year.”
