The Grand National took place on Saturday and winning big was Strictly Inverness competitor Simone Stewart.

She held a Ladies Day Grand National event to raise funds for the Highland Hospice and Inverness Ice Centre, clocking up nearly £3300.

The event took place at The Legion in Dingwall, and included a sweepstake for the Grand National, a raffle and the £1 game.

With over 100 people in attendance, Ms Stewart said: “Ladies day was a huge success. Everyone looked amazing and we all had lots of fun.

“Ali Matheson did an amazing job of hosting the day, and we had brilliant entertainment, so there was lots of dancing!”

Joanne Ross, Katie Ferguson and Gregor Matheson and his band all provided the music for the day, and the night saw Half Man Half Disco taking charge of the tunes.

The event took Ms Stewart over her £10,000 mark in her fundraising efforts.

She added: “Thank you to everyone who came along and supported me. This was my favourite event.”
