PUPILS at an Inverness school enjoyed a morning walk around the city to raise funds for themselves as well as promoting an important message about health and well-being.

Around 900 students from Inverness Royal Academy took part in the sponsored walk last week.

It is an annual event for the city school, raising thousands of pounds towards a range of extra-curricular activities laid on for pupils.

Students put their best feet forward to cover a distance of 10 miles, taking in parts of Slackbuie and General Wade’s Military Road as well as Daviot Wood.

According to the school’s depute rector Bridget Reid the barbecue that followed their mammoth effort was much-appreciated by all.

“We have had a brilliant day,” she said.

“The pupils have been great and certainly seem to have enjoyed themselves.

“They have made a huge effort, both in fundraising and completing the walk, and we are very proud of them.”

She added: “We’d like to thank the local community for the fantastic support they have given to our pupils along the route.”

Ms Reid said they had also enjoyed incredible support from a range of local businesses who sponsored the event.

These included city solicitor and estate agents firms Macleod and MacCallum, Anderson Shaw and Gilbert and Harper and Macleod as well as butcher Duncan Fraser, industrial equipment supplier Weldex and Orion Engineering.

Funds raised by the walk are still being counted but organisers are hopeful of raising around £19,000.
