Autumn lovers of all ages braved the torrential rains last weekend to enjoy some seasonal fun and grab a colourful pumpkin to take home.

With Halloween getting close and pumpkin season at its peak, people flocked at the Cawdor Pumpkin Patch as the new venue opened for the first weekend to the public.

An initiative by Sibby Arkell-Glover and her husband Philip Arkell, who recently moved to the area, the patch aims to bring a fun activity for families as well as promoting local produce – with their website now boosting a list of tasty pumpkin-based recipes.

"Despite the weather we did see plenty of smiley wee faces which really lifted our spirits," said Sibby.

"Amazingly nobody got stuck in the mud and chatting with our visitors they all seemed to have had a jolly old time! We got a lot of kind words, and compliments on our set-up which was great, especially as it’s our debut year."

"So all in all, although there were fewer people than we’d expected, the pumpkin pickers who came were very enthusiastic and super supportive. We were very tired by the end of the weekend!"

The pumpkin patch will reopen on Saturday, October 14 and will be welcoming the public – free entry, booking strongly recommended – until Sunday 22.

They will then reopen on the last weekend in October and again on October 31st for a special Halloween party and to close the season.
