PICTURES: Singing For Pleasure group creates festive cheer at sell-out show at Merkinch Community Centre in Inverness

Festive cheer was in abundance at a concert performed by an Inverness singing group.

The Singing For Pleasure group, which meets at Merkinch Community Centre, returned to the stage to perform its popular Christmas show after it was presented as a virtual event last year due to coronavirus restrictions.

Elsie Normington, who runs the group, said tickets for the show sold out.

"All the audience were saying it was really great to be back," she said.

"It was fantastic. It spread a bit of joy and gladness.

"It is lovely to have that community connection."

The programme for the concert included a host of festive favourites such as Walking In The Air and Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.

Three of the performers were aged in their 90s.

"The singing group is a real lifeline to a lot of our members," Mrs Normington said.

"It makes them feel good.

"Singing is a great way of doing that. It lifts people’s mood. I think it is so important to keep these things going."
