HALF a century of lifesaving work and countless hours of lending a sympathetic ear to those in distress was honoured in Inverness at the weekend.
The Inverness branch of the Samaritans has been running for 50 years.
And a special civic reception honouring the humanitarians for their impressive milestone was held in Inverness Town House on Saturday evening.
Around 40 members of the Samaritans attended the dinner, alongside a number of local dignitaries such as Inverness depute provost Jackie Hendry, and her husband – the Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey MP Drew Hendry.
A couple of long-serving members of the Inverness branch of the Samaritans were also celebrated for their decades of service.
Beth Miller, who helped to found the Inverness branch back in 1973, was honoured for her 50-year contribution.
And Pat Luxton, who recently stepped down from her role, was also honoured for her 32 years of service.
Elsewhere, the evening included music from pianist Sheila Bruce.
The event was funded through the Inverness Common Good Fund as a thank-you to the Inverness branch for its many years of sterling service to the community. A spokesperson for the Samaritans’ Inverness branch said the evening was a “very big success” and it had been a “lovely” event.
