Business leaders from across the region gathered at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness last Friday for the event organised by Inverness Chamber of Commerce – the first time it had been staged since 2019, due to the pandemic.
Guests were provided with entertainment from former barrister and BBC legal correspondent turned playwright, comedian and filmmaker Clive Coleman.
Chamber president Andrew Stott highlighted the growth and progress which has been made in Inverness and throughout the Highlands during his address.
He also brought into sharp focus the challenges being faced in the area, in particular those with infrastructure and the shortage of workers throughout many sectors.
Mr Stott said: “Part of the skills shortage is due to the chronic lack of housing for workers to live in.
“Now it’s not rocket science – if there aren’t enough workers in the Highlands, we need to bring them in and there needs to be suitable accommodation for those workers, and indeed their families, to live in.”
Mr Stott praised the business community for the work they do, adding: “On a more positive note — business is a force for good. Businesses provide economic wellbeing, jobs, mental wellbeing, social interaction, friendships and crucially a sense of pride for employees and indeed the local area a business is located.”
