Teachers in Inverness and Nairn have joined a Highland-wide day of strike action by the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS).
Picketing of school gates is taking place throughout the city and at outlying schools, with Highland Council’s entire school roll of over 30,000 young people affected.

The strike day is part of 16 days of rolling action by members of Scotland’s biggest teaching union, affecting every local authority area in Scotland.
Teachers want a 10 per cent uplift in pay, but Scottish Government ministers and councils say this is unaffordable.
The current five per cent offer includes rises of up to 6.85 per cent for the lowest paid staff.
The EIS has warned there is currently no end in sight for the dispute and recently announced a further 22 days of extra strikes to take place between March 13 and April 21 this year.
