PETS attended a special service just for them and their owners at Inverness Cathedral.

Thirty-five dogs, three cats, three ferrets and a bearded dragon lizard received a blessing during the service which celebrated St Francis Day on October 4, and around 60 people attended.

Provost Sarah Murray said: “The cathedral echoed with the sounds of many dogs who found various points in the service to remind us all they were there – they even joined in with the singing of hymns. This is the second year we have held the pet blessing service and we are honoured to be able to offer a blessing to the animals and those who care and protect them.”

More than £160 was raised at the service for Veterans with Dogs which provides dogs to help service personnel with mental health problems.

Veterans with Dogs had seven months old trainee golden labrador Lilly at the service.

Volunteer trainer Shanta Cariese said: "It was such a lovely experience for Lilly to attend the animal blessing at Inverness Cathedral.

"As usual Lilly loved all the attention but was, like many, not sure about the ferrets.

"The collection is wonderful, this donation will go towards Lilly's care during her initial 12 months basic and public training and will be put towards her daily meals and veterinary cover – as a growing Labrador, her tummy is rarely full.

"Veterans With Dogs would like to thank all those who contributed and attended this great event."
