PICTURES: Packed audience enjoys Merkinch variety show

Performers into their 90s showed age is no barrier when they took to the stage at Merkinch Community Centre in Inverness.

The Singing For Pleasure group, which meets at the community centre, entertained with its variety show.

The group, which was formed 17 years ago, comprises mainly senior citizens.

Musical director Elsie Normington said: “People loved the event and enjoyed the variety of acts, choir pieces and audience sing-along – a big gold star to all the performers who are mainly in their 70s and 80s.

“One lady was 92 years old and recited a poem called My Friend, with a big teddy bear beside her.

“It gives me such joy to see the happiness which Singing for Pleasure brings.”
