More than 100 performers from seven choirs from Nairnshire and the surrounding area will be performing together for the first time this month.

Singers will come together at Nairn Community and Arts Centre to help make St Columba’s church in Nairn warmer and more sustainable.

A Choral Extravaganza will see local choirs the Accidentals, Ardersier Forte, Mellow Yellow, Nairn Gaelic Choir, Sounds Deep, The Vocal Line and the Howlin’ Gaels join their voices for a good cause.

The Accidentals choir secretary Cath Stevenson said: "It’s really exciting! It’s the most amazing thing to be in one place at the one time with so many singers.

"To have so many choirs in the one venue for the first time is incredible, and it's a fabulous sound.

“We had a great first rehearsal last week and we are all looking forward to the event.

“There will also be a big surprise – the finale is still under wraps!”

The initiative aims to raise funds for the hall at St Columba’s in Queen Street.

Ms Stevenson explained: “For a number of years, St Columba’s has been delighted to welcome a wide range of charities and community groups who use our hall as a base.

“We pride ourselves in offering low-cost accommodation to the community and this has ranged from puppy classes to sports training, music lessons to creative writing and so much more.

“After some time working on the church building and making it more energy efficient, we are now turning our attention to the hall, with the hope that we can, not only reduce our carbon footprint, but make the hall space a warmer and more comfortable environment for those who come.

“The initial plan is to lower the height of the ceiling add some insulation and low-energy lighting. The concert in the Community Centre in April is, in part, towards that aim.”

The event will take place on Friday, April 26, at 7pm (doors open 6.15pm) and tickets can be purchased at the community centre or online at nairncc.co.uk.
