Hardy swimmers took the plunge into the frigid waters of the Moray Firth just before Christmas – raising more than £350 for charity in the process.

Nairn County FC's annual Christmas Dip took place at Nairn Beach on Saturday, December 23.

The three-minute plunge was held to help raise funds both for Team Hamish and Mikeysline.

And plenty of plucky locals took the plunge, despite the day's chilly weather and frigid surf, with snow falling even to sea level in some parts of the Moray Firth that day.

Organisers were delighted with the turn-out, with around 70 to 75 people entering the Moray Firth for the dip.

The event raised £354.82p for the two charities, with the cash being split equally between them.

Following the fundraising plunge, participants and spectators were treated to come complimentary hot drinks and barbecue, with Ghillies Kitchen providing the burgers and the Havelock Hotel providing the soup.

Ken Loades, vice-chairman of Nairn County FC was delighted with the success of the event.

He said: "The turnout was very very good considering how cold and miserable it was on the day. The club are well supported within the community, and it's good to be able to give a bit back to the community."
