More than 20 fire fighters and support colleagues stood to attention, paying tribute to those who had been lost over the last year.

Fire fighters lost one of their retired colleagues during the pandemic.

Retired Inverness firefighter Derek Wilkie passed away after being treated for the virus in the city’s Raigmore Hospital.

Mr Wilkie had been in intensive care in Raigmore for two weeks. One of his two adult sons, who had also contracted the condition, has since recovered.

The 57-year-old, originally from Nairn, was a firefighter in Inverness for 27 years and the flag at the fire station was lowered to half mast in recognition of his work.
