A RIGHT royal sense of occasion ensured there was a little Coronation flair in the air when a special family cycling event took place in Inverness.

Held on the same day that Charles III was crowned, the monthly Kidical Mass cycling and wheeling group’s latest gathering saw participants don a few regal flourishes – such as crowns – to get into the occasion.

And organisers were delighted with the turn-out, with 126 people taking part in the family-friendly marshalled cycling – one of the biggest numbers of riders recorded at the monthly events.

Sara Ramsey said: “We were delighted, it was a pretty respectable number and one of the bigger totals. It was really busy. A lot of people were saying they had a great time.”

She added that the large turnout was also a boost for the city’s new Bicycle Mayor, Emily Williams, who attended on what was her first official event in her role. The day also included a seed and plant swap involving Incredible Edible, and also a toy swap,

The Kidical Mass Action Weekend sees every town and city across Europe involved in the organisation coming together on the same weekend to show how many people believe in safe streets for all ages.

Last year an estimated 90,000 people took part at around 400 sites across Europe. Inverness is the most northerly Kidical Mass ride, and people of all ages are invited to be a part of the action, which sees cyclists travel a route between Bellfield Park and the Highland Archive Centre.

The next Kidical Mass gathering in Inverness takes place on June 3. For more details go to kidicalmassnorth.co.uk, see the “Family Cycling Inverness” page on Facebook, or follow them on Twitter @kidicalmassINV.
