A prize bingo session in an Inverness car park proved such a success that it is now set to be repeated next month.

Café V8’s charity bingo session in aid of Highland Hospice was scheduled to take place inside the popular Longman Industrial Estate café earlier this year, before lockdown led to the cancellation of all indoor events.

But with restrictions now easing, the Café V8 team helped regular customer Angie MacFarlane bring bingo outdoors.

The session was a hit, with some 40 cars taking over the car park, and almost £1500 raised for the hospice.

“It was really good. Everyone was really happy with it and everyone wants to do it again,” said Café V8 manager David MacDougall.

Once they had registered, participants were guided to their parking places and stayed in their cars – other than for any necessary toilet stops – with any food orders or prizes – which included dinner sets, grills, deep-fat fryers and other kitchen and household items – brought to their vehicles.

Winners were encouraged to beep their car horns or shout for any winning line or house, while DJ Gary Tuach added to the atmosphere with tunes and chat.

“It worked a treat. We asked people for feedback and everyone seemed happy with what we did,” Mr MacDougall added.

“The distancing measures worked well. Because they didn’t get out of their cars, except to go to the toilet, it didn’t give us too much of a problem, and everyone took their rubbish away with them.

“We had a raffle as well, and in all we raised £1460 for the hospice, so Angie was delighted. We raised a lot more than we thought we would.”

The next Café V8 car park bingo session will take place on August 29, to raise money for Highland League side Clachnacuddin’s under-17s team.
