Bunting, Union Jacks and big smiles were the order of the day across the Inverness and Nairn areas over the weekend as hundreds of people sought to come together to mark the historic coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla.

In Nairn, church bells were rung and there was a flag-raising at the town’s Royal British Legion, while in Inverness, the day before the coronation itself, children and staff came together at the city’s Central Primary School for their own special assembly.

And Highland Hospice, based in Inverness but serving those in need right across the region, even organised a special tea party for its own residents, staff and family members.

In Cawdor, locals turned out for a giant outdoor picnic while at Auldearn the village’s 1645 Inn played host to a colourful market, with plenty to amuse and entertain.
