Ran by Ant Collesso, Fitness With Pride is a concept that has proven successful south of the border, but aside from a few outdoor classes during the early months of the Covid-19 pandemic was largely untested in the Highlands.

With Mr Collesso moving back to his hometown of Inverness earlier this year, though, the concept has made its way north – and the first class was put on last Saturday afternoon at the Spectrum Centre.

Fitness With Pride is a dance aerobic class unlike any other – with Mr Collesso’s background being in aerial fitness – featuring music representative of his LGBTQ+ and mixed race identity.

As well as reintroducing himself to the Highland capital, Mr Collesso was also keen to use the event as a fundraising opportunity for Highland Pride, raising a small amount for the charity after deducting costs for venue hire.

“There were smiles all around and such a positive and uplifting energy in the room,” he said.

“I think it’s the best class I’ve ever instructed, and if this is just the start then I can’t wait to see what we can build in the future.”
