The new angling season on the River Beauly is under way after anglers gathered on the banks of the waterway this weekend to mark the occasion.

The Beauly Angling Club held its river opening ceremony on Saturday morning.

The ceremony near the Downie Fishing Hut featured the traditional piper, toast and refreshments, as well as the ceremonial ‘first cast’ of the season.

Paul Summerlin, Beauly Angling Club’s treasurer was delighted with the event’s success.

He said: “We had about 45 people there and got quite a few new members turning up.

“The weather was excellent – just as the picture was being taken of throwing the toast into the river, the sun caught the dram going into the water.”

He added that the event was “extremely enjoyable” and everyone had a good time. The provided refreshments, which included sausage rolls and vegan ones as well, were quickly snapped up.

He also wanted to thank the Ord Distillery in Muir of Ord for again donating a couple of bottles of whisky for the toast and for members to enjoy a dram during and after the ceremony.
