THERE was plenty of festive cheer when around 70 senior citizens from the Dalneigh area enjoyed their annual Christmas party at the James Cameron Centre.

The Dalneigh Residents Association have been organising a Christmas dinner for the pensioners for more than 10 years.

A spokeswoman for the event said: “Everybody says it was fantastic – it was the best one so far. They all got a gift from Santa.”

Christmas dinner with all the trimmings was served to the guests, as well as leek and potato soup for a starter and trifle for dessert.

Work setting up at the centre started on the previous day and, as well as the visit from Santa, the pensioners and volunteers enjoyed a display of Highland dancing and Scottish music from young entertainers.

The event is regarded by guests as something to look forward too and a chance to meet old friends, because many of them don’t get to see each other from one year to the next because they are sometimes housebound and depend on carers.
