A Nairn nurse has held her finad fundraising event ahead of the Strictly Inverness dancing competition.

Niamh McAuley (24), who is a pediatric nurse said she feels “terrified and excited” as the final showdown for Strictly Inverness approaches.

“I am just counting the days to the event now,” she said.

“It’s been pretty difficult so far as I have never danced before! But it’s been really really good.

“It’s been really fun and something I did not imagine myself doing.

“It has been great to meet different people and hear the different stories and reasons why they are fundraising for the hospice.”

Niamh and her friend Kenna Ross decided to take part in the event – which raises vital funds for the Highland Hospice and the Inverness Ice Centre.

Her last fundraising event took place at the weekend at Inverness Town House, with dance tutor Jade McIntyre organising a Dirty Dancing-themed dance workshop.

The event, which raised £400 in total, was to support Niamh’s fundraising campaign alongside that of her dancing partner Sean McIver and dance duo Shireen Fyffe and Jason Kelman.

“I really liked it, it was a bit different,” Niamh said. “Jade is a fantastic dance teacher and she put on some steps from Dirty Dancing. And we had some mocktails and refreshments on as well.

“Unfortunately I couldn’t take part to the whole class as I suffered a small concussion recently. I am taking a wee step back now, but with the final being only a couple of weeks away, I really hope I can squeeze in some more practice!”

Another fundraiser she organised was a successful Great Gatsby-themed night at Jimmy Badgers.

This takes Niamh’s campaign to around £2000.

Stricly Inverness will take place at the Inverness Ice Centre from Wednesday, May 8 to Saturday, May 11.
