More than 200 people attended an outdoor carol concert in aid of charity.

Locals flocked around the lights and decorations at St Stephen’s Church for the Carols Round the Tree event which generated money for local organisation Clarity Walk, which runs phone-free community walks to promote good mental health.

Organiser Val Cantley said: “It was a great success with over 200 in attendance. We were delighted and over £240 was collected for Clarity Walk.

“Pam MacCulloch and Alyn Ross, who lead the St Stephen’s Choir, provided the music.”

“This is the first time that we have had a big Christmas tree outside and we wanted to involve the community around the church as we did at our harvest celebrations.”

The Community Choir was also present at the celebrations, which saw members of the public joining in an outdoor performance of the most well-known Christmas carols with lights and torches, and hot drinks provided.

It’s the first time the church had organised this event for the local community.

Earlier this month, it held two other concerts in aid of activities of Men’s Shed and Spokes For Folks.
