An Inverness pub quiz master braved the shave to say thank you to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Kinmylies man Craig Dunain received the backing of Macmillan Cancer Support while undergoing cancer treatment.

To say thanks recently Mr Dunain (49), of King Brude Gardens, Inverness enlisted the help of City Barbers’ Erica Campbell and Castle Tavern co-owner Les Wilson for a sponsored head shave.

With the bar restaurant raffling bottles of gin and whisky, an extra £85 was raised on the night, bringing the total to date to more than £450 and rising.

Just over a year ago, Mr Dunain was diagnosed with bowel cancer and had a tumour removed. After the operation he underwent chemotherapy and is continuing with further treatment.

Given the life-changing shock of diagnosis, he felt indebted to the charity for help with personal wellbeing, as well as invaluable advice on matters beyond treatment itself.

“Had it not been for Macmillan, my ongoing treatment would have been a very solitary and lonely journey,” he said.

“I just think what they do in supporting people with the disease and their families is fantastic.

“When you’re given the news you have cancer so many different emotions can occur, not least of all the panic about things like financial matters you need to take care of.

“Often you keep things to yourself and don’t want to burden your spouse or close friends.

“As well as the emotional support, Macmillan deals with the many other aspects this invasive and destructive disease brings.”
