People across Inverness have observed a two-minute silence to mark Armistice Day commemorating those who have died in conflict.

Civic leaders, serving and former service personnel, representatives of the Royal British Legion Scotland and young people were among those who gathered outside Inverness Town House for a short ceremony.

It included readings and the lowering and raising of flags.

Armistice Day, which is on November 11, marks the anniversary of the end of World War I in 1918.

Further tributes to those who died in conflict or gave service to their country will be paid during a programme of Remembrance events taking place in Inverness on Saturday and Sunday.

The annual parade on Remembrance Sunday will leave Huntly Street at 2.25pm and be followed by a service and wreath-laying at the war memorial in Cavell Gardens at 3pm.

Last year's event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
