A CHRISTMAS event silenced for three years during the pandemic reconvened in full voice as the Highland Hospitals Carol Concert raised around £6000 for the Young Lives vs Cancer charity.

Leading UK character tenor Harry Nicoll, originally from Inverness, flew in specially for the occasion after breaking off from regular appearances at London’s Covent Garden and across Europe to sing four songs.

A packed hall at the Drumossie Hotel on Sunday also saw stalwart Sheila Bruce give her last accompaniment before retiring.

Chairwoman Gill Silver was thrilled with how the afternoon event went.

“I only took on the chairperson’s role during the pandemic, so it was my first concert and I was more worried about it than everyone else who remembered the great evenings of the past,” she said.

“There was a wee concern that, as it is quite an old audience, people might not come out in numbers but it was a really fantastic and has given everyone, including the charity, a terrific boost. There was also a lovely tribute paid to Sheila at the end, with a presentation from choir and committee.”
