Christmas shoppers were entertained with festive carols during a fundraiser for an ambitious project to develop Scotland’s first multi-purpose centre for young people with learning disabilities and complex needs.
The Acclaim Choir, which comprises members of churches in the Inverness and Black Isle area, raised £500 during an hour-long performance in the Eastgate Shopping Centre.
The money will go towards the Haven Centre which is due to be built next year at a site in Murray Road, Smithton.
Haven Appeal community fundraiser Rona Matheson said the choir usually sang in church settings but this was the first time they had been asked to sing in front of a general public audience.
“They really enjoyed it,” she said. “It was fantastic. The music was lovely and there was a very positive atmosphere.”
The choir, led by Elaine Kirkham, has taken part in online practice sessions.
The £4.1 million Haven project, led by the Elsie Normington Foundation, will comprise respite flats, an indoor specialist play centre with childcare facilities.
