MORE than £500 was raised to help veterans when 60 Inverness youngsters flocked to see Santa and the Grinch when they visited the Forces Support charity store in Telford Street.

Forces Support is a bereavement and veterans’ charity which provides relief and support to families of service personnel killed on active service, and also assist former service personnel and their families who are in financial hardship.

Each child was charged £4 and they had their photos taken with the visitors as well as receiving gifts.

Store manager Jay Fraser said they raised just over £500 and added: “The money will go towards improving the lives of the bereaved. We also provide remembrance benches and treasured memory books which bring a long-term emotional benefit to the families we support.”

She said the feedback from parents had been good and it had been suggested to run the event over two days.

The charity also helps improve the supply of housing for veterans in association with Haig Housing Trust – whose latest housing project is Broughton House in Salford.
