A POPULAR fundraising event in Inverness saw around £15000 raised for a Highland cancer charity.

In its fifth year, Run the Runway was back at Inverness Airport on Saturday with almost 150 runners taking part.

The event gives the opportunity to run or walk 5km around Inverness Airport's runway at midnight, with all proceeds going to Maggie's Highlands.

Music and entertainment were also on during the night.

Centre Fundraising Manager Andrew Benjamin said: "The weather was absolutely perfect, quite mild, no rain.

"We had plenty going on in the departure lounge, with a party going on and North Highland Events held a DJ set for us too.

"We were treated to singer Wee James Macgillivary, who did a thirty minutes singing set, and he was absolutely fantastic.

"The experience was just wonderful, and I think that many people who hadn't done it before really want to come back next year.

"We had quite a lot of new people so it was really good to be able to talk to them and explain.

"We are thankful to every single person that took part and help with the fundraising, and we are very grateful to Inverness Airport for their support."

"So far we have raised £15000 but we are hoping to get more donations and add to that."

Donations are still open and can be sent via the event's Just Giving page.

Friends and family took part to the event, many of which had used Maggie's services.

"It's amazing to see them there and that is their way of giving back to the charity, " said Mr Benjamin.

"Every year, this is an event that is just so unique, and it's just such a great experience to be out o the runway in the pitch dark. This event is really about friends and family coming together."
