Crews that man the RNLI lifeboats are well used to getting a soaking when out saving lives.

So the men and women volunteers at Kessock RNLI were undaunted when they tackled a day cleaning cars, vans and 4X4s last Saturday.

The annual fundraising car wash was the main event on the small station’s March calendar, and there was a big turnout to help from 10am to 4pm.

Drivers also turned out in their dozens to help such a good cause, and a total of £2620 flooded in.

Kessock crew member and press officer Yvette Kershaw said: “This was a record figure for that fundraiser and we thank all 246 drivers who turned up and were so generous.”

There was even a fire engine from Inverness that called in to give support.

The RNLI stresses they could not save lives without the generosity of public donations that pay for 97 per cent of the service.
