CANCER survivors across the Highlands have raised thousands of pounds to help tackle the disease after strutting their stuff on the catwalk for a charity fashion show.

The Black Isle branch of Cancer Research UK held the charity fashion show at the Leonardo Hotel in Inverness on Friday evening.

It was a huge success, with more than 200 people in attendance and around £5000 raised on the night through the show and a raffle, the latter of which generated £1800 on its own.

And that total reaches even loftier heights when other fundraising efforts are also taken into account – with Poppy Weatherall (8) bringing a cheque for more than £1900 along to the evening following a successful 10k run challenge in memory the gran she never got to meet.

A spokeswoman for the branch said: "It went very well, very well indeed. There were about 200 people there. Everyone seemed to be very happy."

The spokeswoman added that cancer survivors of all ages took to the catwalk on the night, with the youngest model being 12-year-old Maisie Simon, and another model being an 80-year-old who was celebrating her birthday the same day as the fashion show.

And the fundraising successes for the branch won't stop with the fashion show. They have a major golf day fundraiser lined up in Fortrose next month.

The day, which will be held at Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club on Friday, May 12, will see more than 20 teams of golfers compete for a memorial salver while raising funds for the charity.

Last year the charity shattered records, raising £30,000 from that one day.

And they are hopeful of generating a sizeable sum this time too – places for the teams are already at capacity but sponsorship opportunities for some of the holes are still available at £1500 each.
