FROM music to clothing, braiding and dancing, people attending a multicultural event in the Highland Capital had a ball at the weekend.

The Family Fun Day organised by Inverness-based African Caribbean Asian and Mixed Heritage Association (ACAMHA) to celebrate Black History Month saw more than 400 people in attendance at Eden Court with people joining from Inverness and from all over Scotland.

Mya Chemonges-Murzynowska, co-founder of the association and among the organisers of the event said: "We were overwhelmed by the response we had to the event! So many people came along and many from Glasgow or Edinburgh, which we didn't expect.

"BBC Radio Scotland and other media outlets were there as well which was a great surprise for us and to give us a wider reach.

"We had people from all walks of life joining in and also members of the public modelling for our fashion show. Everyone had a great time, it was wonderful to see everyone enjoyng the music, dance and all the activities on the day.

"Seeing the community come together was the highlight of the day."

The event was free and made possible through donations from local businesses and residents.

A total of £1450 was raised, however the association is still accepting donations to cover costs of this and future events.

Ms Chemonges-Murzynowska said: "Harry Gow's provided the bakery goods, Tesco covered the sweets and drinks and Morrisons helped us with donations as well. We had Albyn Housing donatng £500 and other donations via our go fund Me page.

"We can't thank them enough!"

She added that given this positive start, the association is aiming to bring more activities and more events in the future.

"This was our main event so far so we hope to do something, possibly smaller, before Christmas, she said.

"We spoke to a dance school in Glasgow at the event and they seemed keen to work with us in the future so we are hoping to run more events with them soon."

More information about the association can be found on their Facebook page.
